CLYDEBANK’S promotion hopes are still alive and well following a 5-1 win over Cumbernauld United on Wednesday.
Mark Burbidge’s double and goals from Joel Kasubandi, Nicky Little and Jordan Shelvey saw Bankies extend their unbeaten run to six matches.
In first half stoppage stage, Bankies took the lead. Good work from Nicky Little saw the ball worked to Mark Burbidge, who opened the scoring with a deft nick past United goalkeeper Jamie McGowan.
Seven minutes after the restart, Bankies were awarded a penalty. Nicky Little assumed responsibility, but McGowan got down well to save the resulting spot kick.
The visitors had claims for another penalty waved away just two minutes later, when Kasbandi was sent sprawling inside the area.
Then, Cumbernauld levelled. From a corner, Bankies stopper Robert Tiropoulos dropped the ball, allowing Alan Clark to force the ball home after a goalmouth scramble.
On the hour mark, Bankies got themselves in front. A cushioned header from Little found Kasubandi, and Joel made no mistake from five yards to put Clydebank 2-1 up.
Five minutes later, Clydebank extended their advantage. A through ball from Kasubandi found marauding right back Robbie Halliday and his inch perfect cutback was swept home by Burbidge for his fifth goal in six matches.
Bankies continued to dominate and grabbed a fourth soon after. Kasubandi’s defence splitting through ball found Little, who expertly finished low under the keeper to make it 18 for the season.
With five minutes remaining, Bankies added a fifth. A bursting run down the right from substitute Jordan Shelvey saw him advance into the box, and delicately dink the ball over McGowan to wrap up all three points.
The win sees Budgie McGhie’s men climb back up to second spot ahead of Wednesday’s clash with Blantyre Vics. Kick off at Holm Park is 7:15, get down and back the Bankies in our final push for promotion.
