CLYDEBANK remain in sixth spot following a goalless draw with Blantyre Vics on Saturday.

Bankies boss Budgie McGhie made two changes to the side that lost to 1-0 Shettleston last weekend, with Joel Kasubandi and Jordan Shelvey replacing Mark Burbidge and Alan Frizzell respectively.

In a quiet start to proceedings at Holm Park, in-form Vics striker Steven Higgins had the first effort of the game, testing Bankies stopper Josh Lumsden with a driven shot from the edge of the area.

On his return to the starting lineup, Joel Kasubandi – playing wide on the right – carved out the first opportunity of the game. After a double step-over, he cut inside but curled his attempt wide of the target.

Midway through the first half, Bankies should’ve opened the scoring. Nicky Little – once again playing up front – played the ball across the face of goal for Jordan Shelvey, and only an incredible one handed save from Vics goalkeeper Law prevented the home side taking the lead.

Bankies made one change at the break that saw Peter McGill replace Joel Kasubandi, with McGill’s pace causing the Blantyre back line problems from the off.

A largely subdued second half ensued, with Bankies continuing to carve out the better opportunities. None more so than when Jordan Shelvey was upended 25 yards from goal, Little took the resulting free kick, curling the ball agonisingly wide of Law’s left hand post.

With fifteen minutes remaining, Bankies tried to go for a winner. The introduction of Stevie Young in place of Jordan Shelvey saw the former hold the ball up well and disguise a through ball into McGill, but the winger pulled his shot wide.

Bankies were then reduced to ten men when Calum Gow was dismissed for a second yellow card, with the central defender picking up his second red card in three matches.

As the clock ticked down, Blantyre’s one man advantage almost paid dividends. Bankies were caught on the break with Lumsden able to get the merest of fingertips to tip Higgins shot round the post.

And it was soon to be ten men apiece when referee Garry Doherty also showed Dale Jones a second yellow card as both sides had to settle for a point.
