CLYDEBANK claimed the derby day bragging rights as they defeated ten man Yoker Athletic 3-0 at Holm Park on Saturday.
Nicky Little’s first half penalty put Bankies in front, before Yoker were reduced to ten men when defender Michael Bailey was dismissed for a second yellow card. Joel Kasubandi struck twice in the dying minutes as Bankies also held on for their first clean sheet since October.
Bankies boss Kieran McAnespie made two changes to the side that lost to Renfrew, with Mark Burbidge and Jordan Shelvey returning to the starting eleven in place of Peter McGill and Alan Frizzell. The new boss even named himself among the substitutes as Bankies started the game brightly.
On seven minutes, Clydebank were awarded a penalty when Mark Burbidge was caught by the high boot of Michael Bailey – with referee Craig King pointed straight to the spot. Nicky Little assumed responsibility, sending former Bankies stopper Liam Campbell the wrong way as he claimed his 11th goal of the captain.
Yoker had the chance to draw level soon after, but Josh Lumsden made a smart stop in what was one of very few saves the young keeper had to make.
Having been booked in the aftermath of the penalty incident, Bailey was shown a second yellow card on the half hour mark for chopping down Jordan Shelvey on the edge of the area, as the Whe Ho were forced down to ten men.
Just after the restart Clydebank squandered the chance to double their lead when Yoker centre back John Harvey was caught in possession by Little – playing him through on goal – but Campbell reacted well to parry his effort away.
Little tried his luck again soon after, his didn’t catch the ball cleanly and Campbell collected once again.
As ten man Yoker pushed for the equaliser, Bankies all but secured the win with just three minutes to go. Good strength in the corner saw substitute Frizzell cut the ball back to Kasubandi, who shot low past Campbell after a clever front post run.
On the stroke of full time Bankies did make sure of the win when Kasubandi netted his second and Clydebank’s third of the afternoon. Frizzell sprung the offside trap and once again found Kasubandi in the middle, with Campbell only getting his fingertips to it as the full time whistle sounded.
The win sees Bankies remain in third place ahead of next week’s visit of Rutherglen Glencairn. Kick off at Holm Park is 2pm.
