CLYDEBANK fell to third in the table with a 2-0 loss at home to Rutherglen Glencairn on Saturday.
Goals from Fraser Team and former Bankie Del McNab saw Rutherglen claim their first win against Clydebank in almost seven years.
Bankies boss Kieran McAnespie named an unchanged eleven to the side that beat Yoker Athletic 3-0 last week, with only Robert Tiropoulos returning to the bench in place of Danny MacKinnon.
On a heavy Holm Park pitch, Bankies restricted Glens to long range efforts from Tony Fraser and Craig McGregor in the opening exchanges of what transpired to be a fairly frantic first half.
On the half hour mark Bankies almost took the lead in spectacular fashion. The ball broke to Phil Barclay 25 yards from goal, and the captain’s thunderous effort flew just over the bar as Bankies looked to settle into the game.
And five minutes before the break, Clydebank missed their best chance of the half. Nicky Little’s floated free kick was met by the head of Alan Vezza, but Glens stopper JC Hutchison reacted well to make a smart stop.
The introduction of Alan Frizzell saw Bankies opt for a 4-4-2 approach on the hour mar, which almost paid dividends. A hopeful ball over the top found its way to Frizzell, who took a touch inside the Glens defender but appeared to go down too easily in the box.
With less than twenty minutes remaining, Glens took the lead. McNab neatly back heeled the ball into the path of Team, who played a clever one-two with Jay McKay before slotting the ball past Lumsden in what was a great move.
Five minutes later, Glens doubled their lead. Ryan McArdle’s corner from the left was met by the stooping McNab, who beat Jamie Lyden to the ball to nod past Lumsden for a second time.
With the three points secured, Glens could have and should have grabbed a third when McNab’s diagonal through ball was missed by Robbie Halliday, but Lumsden made a smart block to deny Team’s second and Glens third of the day.
Only substitute Peter McGill and Alan Vezza had any further efforts of note as the match petered out as Bankies hopes of automatic promotion were dealt another blow.
