Maryhill 3 – Clydebank 0

GAVIN Stokes scored direct from kick off as Clydebank fell to a 3-0 defeat to ten man Maryhill on Saturday.

Bankies boss Kieran McAnespie made one chance from the side that lost to Petershill, with Joel Kasubandi replacing Alan Frizzell upfront as Clydebank persevered with a 3-5-2 formation.

Unbelievably, Maryhill took the lead straight from kick off. Striker Gavin Stokes’s audacious, driven effort from the centre circle flew beyond the reach of Bankies stopper Josh Lumsden – who could only watch as Maryhill took the lead within three seconds.

Bankies failed to create any real chances of note during a laboured opening 45 minutes, with Maryhill midfielder David Matthews shown a yellow card for kicking the ball away – before receiving a straight red card for foul and abusive language.

Jamie Darroch was withdrawn at the break and replaced by striker Ross Cameron as Bankies swapped to a 4-4-2 formation, with Maryhill almost doubling their lead within minutes of the restart.

Alex Docherty spun Robbie Halliday inside the area, but his near post effort was blocked by Lumsden as the disjointed Bankies struggled to make the man advantage count.

Clydebank tried to force their way back into proceedings at a sun kissed Lochburn Park, and almost levelled when Hashim Cole’s diagonal pass found Andy Paterson – who crossed for Joel Kasubandi but the striker’s header was well wide of the target.

In Bankies’ best period of the game, Jordan Shelvey also dragged a shot wide of Maryhill goalkeeper Jack Baker’s left hand post, but it was soon to be two for the home side as the unmarked Colin Preston rose highest to nod home from a simple corner.

On the seventy-minute mark, the ten men compounded McAnespie’s men’s misery with a third. Justin Begg latched on to Robbie Halliday’s heavy touch, before coolly slotting the ball beyond Lumsden.

Once again Bankies lacked any cutting edge in front of goal, while individual mistakes at the back proved costly as Clydebank slip to seventh in the table ahead of Saturday’s game agains Cumbernauld United, kick off at Holm Park is 2pm.
