This St Andrews Day – we’re delighted to introduce lifelong Clydebank supporter Hamish MacDonald as the inaugural Bankies Bard.
Hamish will take up the post of Clydebank FC’s Poet in residence – bringing you songs and verses to celebrate our club and town.
Commenting on his appointment, Hamish added: “As a lifelong fan I am delighted at being asked by Clydebank FC to take up the honorary role of the Bankies Bard.
“In the best of our old traditions a bard would be somebody who would commemorate events which record and celebrate the collective memory of the community in poetry and song, its ups and downs, victories and defeats.
“Hopefully the Bankies Bard can live up to something of the spirit of this, not only by looking at our long and chequered history as a fitba team but by charting its progress as we move forward in this new era of the West of Scotland Football League.
“And then there is the town our club belongs to as well, with all its social and industrial history which can hopefully be reflected here and there as we look back and forwards in this continuing story.
“Following the Bankies has gifted us with many fond memories, of fine footballers, games, characters, some great laughs, outrageous moments and a few tears.
“For me, it’s a story well worth telling and one I’ll do my best to celebrate in poetry, story and song. Mon the Bankies!”
