Clydebank kicked off the 2018/19 season with a 2-0 win over Vale of Clyde on Saturday.
Second half goals from Jordan Shelvey and Sean Higgins sealed the win that saw Bankies pick up three points on the opening day of the Sectional League Cup.
Assistant boss Marc McCulloch named three new signings in the starting eleven, with Del Hepburn, Liam Rowan and Sean Higgins all making their competitive debuts.
And it was Higgins who went closest to opening the scoring. Shelvey burst down the left channel and crossed for Higgins at the back post, but his powerful drive was saved by Vale goalkeeper Scott.
Bankies were on control of proceedings at Lochburn Park but it took almost until the hour mark for Bankies to break a resilient Vale side down.
Marc Waters’ goal kick was flicked backwards by the unfortunate Vale defender, with Shelvey latching on before deftly dinking the ball into the bottom corner.
Bankies began to create more chances after the opener, with both Higgins and Shelvey going closest.
The new look Clydebank side also had a claims for a stonewall penalty waved away when Shelvey was upended inside the area by Murphy, but referee Blair Fraser deemed it wasn’t a foul and waved away protests.
But Bankies finally put the game beyond Vale’s reach with just over ten minutes remaining.
It was the new signings who combined, with Hepburn crossing from the left for Higgins to nick in front of his man and guide the ball home.
Captain Alan Vezza should’ve made it three before the end when he somehow headed wide from six yards as Bankies recorded their first win of the season.
Next up we welcome Vale of Clyde to Lochburn Park, kick off on Monday evening is 7pm.
