CLYDEBANK leaped into the automatic promotion places after coming from behind to beat Girvan 2-1 on Saturday afternoon.
Jamie Ballantine gave the Seasiders the lead from a free kick, before Alan Frizzell replied almost instantly – scoring his third goal in four games with an fantastic finish from a tight angle.
And with five minutes to go, Jamie Darroch grabbed the winner – his first goal in Clydebank colours – to send the 400 strong Holm Park crowd wild as Bankies picked up their fourth consecutive win.
Bankies boss Kieran McAnespie named himself in the starting eleven in place of the injured Alan Vezza, who missed just his second game of the season.
Clydebank were limited to few chances in the opening 45 minutes, with Jordan Shelvey and Jamie Lyden coming close.
Two minutes into the second period, Clydebank could’ve broken the deadlock after McAnespie curled a shot narrowly over the bar after a good cut back from Burbidge on the left.
But it was the visitors who got the opening goal of the game. Winning a free kick wide on the right, Jamie Ballantine’s left footed effort bounced past Bankies stopper Josh Lumsden as Girvan took the lead.
Within a minute of the restart though, Bankies were level. From McAnespie’s pass, Nicky Little lifted the ball into the path of Frizzell, who took a touch before unleashing a ferocious half volley high past Girvan goalkeeper Scott Johnstone
Clydebank grew in confidence in the aftermath of the goal and should’ve went ahead moments later after Jordan Shelvey’s shot was parried into the path of Mark Burbidge, but the winger blazed his effort over the bar.
Just minutes later Bankies spurned another chance to go ahead after a one touch passing counter attack. Shelvey brought the ball down for Burbidge, who in turn slipped Little through on goal but Clydebank’s top striker was thwarted by a great stop from Johnstone.
With five minutes remaining, Bankies salvaged the winner. McAnespie’s floated free kick found substitute Stevie Young at the back post, whose deft touch set the ball up perfectly for Darroch to thump home his first Clydebank goal to secure a vital three points for McAnespie’s men.
